His perceptive analysis and accessible style help illuminate key works including: On the Morning of Christ’s Nativity, L’Allegro, Il Penseroso, the masque Comus, as well as the sonnets and Lycidas, which is, he argues convincingly, possibly the best lyric poem in the English language.
